Tri-County Recycling
Public Survey
What do you see as the biggest waste and recycling issues you face within your community in the next 5-20 years?
We want to hear from you! Your input can lead to changes within our Tri-County recycling program. The online survey has nine questions. You can stop the survey and stop participating at any point. Your answers are anonymous unless you choose to enter your contact information within any of the questions.

You can make a difference.
Don’t throw away electronics into your regular garbage. If you do, toxic chemicals can leach out into the local water supply or contaminate the soil. This can make people sick and impacts the economy through the cost of cleanup and lowering property values.
The good news is, you can help – and it is easy! Bring your unwanted electronics to Tri-County Collection Facility, a program of WIRC. The collection facility is located at 129 West Jackson Street in Macomb, Illinois.
What happens to the items I drop-off for recycling?
WIRC upcycles cell phones and other electronics when possible. Other items are processed and shipped to a reclamation unit where heavy metals and other dangerous elements are removed for reuse and to keep them from the landfill.
See your impact!
What items can be recycled?
We will gladly accept any of the items listed below for recycling (with an inspection). It rarely happens, but we reserve the right to refuse any item if it can be seen as a danger to others during the recycling process.
What items cannot be recycled?
While we proudly recycle many things, there are certain electronics and paint items that we cannot process. View the tabs shown below to see unacceptable items.
Where can I take items that WIRC cannot recycle?
For appliances, please check with your waste hauler. For chemicals WIRC cannot accept, please check with your local health department as many communities organize a dangerous chemical disposal day once each year.
You can call us to ask if your item can be recycled!
What is the drop-off process?
When you bring the items to the facility, ask a team member to inspect your items. If needed, they can help you unload. Usually, this only takes a few minutes.
IT’S THE LAW – A team member must inspect all of the items you are turning in to see if they are eligible.
Any items dropped off without inspection and/or outside of operating hours cannot be accepted and are considered illegal, subject to appropriate fines by the State of Illinois. Thank you for making sure the process is done safely and properly!
Is it free to recycle my items?
It depends on if you are a resident or a business.
- Residential drop-off is free of charge.
- There is a small charge for pickup of items at both residential and business properties.
- Businesses have a 50 cents per pound charge, regardless of pickup or drop-off.
When is the collection facility open?
It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of each month (excluding federal holidays).

Where is the collection facility?
The facility is located at 129 West Jackson Street in Macomb, Illinois. The entrance is on the south side of the building and is accessed through the parking lot off West Washington Street.
Clean-up days
Certain times during the year, Tri-County facilitates township-wide cleanup days to prevent illegal dumping in the western Illinois counties of McDonough, Mercer and Warren. Team members work to separate paint and electronics at these special events.
Council
WIRC is the first to lead the region in solid waste management through the administration of the Tri-County Resource & Waste Management Council (TCR&WMC).
The Council represents and meets the solid waste management needs of incorporated and unincorporated communities in McDonough, Mercer, and Warren counties. They continue to establish new recycling programs, expand existing programs, and provide leadership through the effort of its Solid Waste Director.
