Paint & electronics recycling

You can make a difference.

Let’s keep western Illinois beautiful and free from toxic chemicals! Don’t throw away electronics and paint into your regular garbage. If you do, toxic chemicals can leach out into the local water supply or contaminate the soil. This can make people sick and impacts the economy through the cost of cleanup and lowering property values.

The good news is, you can help – and it is easy! Bring your unwanted electronics and paint to Tri-County Collection Facility, a department of Western Illinois Regional Council. The collection facility is located at 129 West Jackson Street in Macomb, Illinois.

What items can be recycled?

We will gladly accept any of the items listed below for recycling (with an inspection). It rarely happens, but we reserve the right to refuse any item if it can be seen as a danger to others during the recycling process.

Tri-County Collection Facility is now recycling car batteries or lawn mower batteries.

What items cannot be recycled?

While we proudly recycle many things, there are certain electronics and paint items that we cannot process. View the tabs shown below to see unacceptable items.

Do you want to ask if your items can be recycled?

What is the process?

When you bring the items to the facility, ask a team member to inspect your items. If needed, they can help you unload. Depending how busy we are, this only takes a few minutes.

IT’S THE LAW – A team member must inspect all of the items you are turning in to see if they are eligible. Any items dropped off without inspection and/or outside of operating hours cannot be accepted and are considered illegal, subject to appropriate fines by the State of Illinois. Thank you for making sure the process is done safely and properly!

Is it free to recycle my items?

Residential drop-off is free of charge. There is a small charge for pickup of items at both residential and business properties. Businesses also have a 25 cents per pound charge.

When is the collection facility open?

It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of each month (excluding federal holidays).

Clean-up days

Certain times during the year, Tri-County facilitates township-wide cleanup days to prevent illegal dumping in the western Illinois counties of McDonough, Mercer and Warren. Team members work to separate paint and electronics at these special events.

Solid Waste Management Services

WIRC is the first to lead the region in solid waste management through the administration of the Tri-County Resource & Waste Management Council (TCR&WMC).

The Council represents and meets the solid waste management needs of incorporated and unincorporated communities in McDonough, Mercer, and Warren counties. They continue to establish new recycling programs, expand existing programs, and provide leadership through the effort of its Solid Waste Director.
