Energy bill help

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

WIRC-CAA Reaches Capacity for LIHEAP

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps eligible households with paying their utility bills. The program runs for a limited time each year, or until funding is exhausted.

As of April 24, 2024, WIRC-CAA officials say they have spent their available funding and cannot take any new LIHEAP applications at this time.

Over 4,300 households were helped by the program through WIRC-CAA across the five Illinois counties of Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough, and Warren.

New applications for LIHEAP are expected to resume on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

What is LIHEAP?

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP – pronounced ‘lie-heap’) is a nationwide, federal grant program that helps eligible households with paying their electricity bill and/or reconnecting their energy service.

Since it is a grant program, that means you will not have to pay back any help that you receive from the program (if you are eligible).

Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) manages LIHEAP in Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough and Warren counties in western Illinois. Your household must meet all of the eligibility guidelines to be considered (see guidelines listed below).

Funding is provided by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
