The Weatherization department at Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) was recently recognized with an Exceptional Performance Award.

The award, given by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), recognizes WIRC’s outstanding accomplishments in serving communities in Hancock, Henderson, Fulton, Knox, McDonough, and Warren counties. Despite only having a five-person team, WIRC’s Weatherization department has processed and completed an impressive number of projects during the last program year.

The Weatherization program helps income-eligible homeowners with making their homes safer and more energy efficient by eliminating heat loss and air infiltration areas in the home. After doing an assessment, they will recommend some improvements to the homeowner and then coordinate repairs with contractors. Examples of common improvements include sealing cracks, insulating attics, or repairing windows and doors. All improvements are completed at no cost to the homeowner.

Weatherization Coordinator Tim Manock says his team always strives to complete as many home projects as possible each program year, but his staff went above and beyond with their high standard of quality work.

“Our Weatherization Team reached a project completion rate of 117% this program year, which exceeded our goal” said WIRC Weatherization Coordinator Tim Manock. “This was a total team effort. It takes great communication between each of us, as well as our contractors and clients, to complete each job.”

Manock continued that they could not have accomplished this milestone without the help of their contractors, which include M&M Mechanical, Canton Heating and Cooling, Energy Home Insulation, and M&B Furniture. WIRC is always looking for additional contractors to partner with on home weatherization projects. Manock said that any contractors who are interested in working with WIRC can contact him by calling 309-837-2997.

Funding for the Weatherization Program is provided by a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
